Week 1 - Signs & Visual Communications, Part 1

(1) Defining terms related to concepts in Visual Communication; for each term do the following:
a.) type the word, itself, b.) explain the meaning, c.) give an example by re-posting a picture found online
- Alphabet
the alphabet, a system of writing, developed in the ancient Near East and transmitted from the northwest Semites to the Greeks, in which each symbol ideally represents one sound unit in the spoken language, and from which most alphabetical scripts are derived.
-Street sign
street sign is a type of traffic sign used to identify named roads, generally those that do not qualify as expressways or highways. 

-Advertisement

s a form of marketing communication used to persuade an audience to take or continue some action, usually with respect to a commercial offering, or political or ideological support.

-Constellation

 is a specific area of the celestial sphere as defined by the International Astronomical Union (IAU). These areas had their origins in star patterns from which the constellations take their names.

-Electronic symbols
is a pictogram used to represent various electrical and electronic devices (such as wiresbatteriesresistors, and transistors) in a schematic diagram of an electrical or electronic circuit

-Morse Code

is a method of transmitting text information as a series of on-off tones, lights, or clicks that can be directly understood by a skilled listener or observer without special equipment.

-American Sign Language

is the predominant sign language of deaf communities in the United States and English-speaking parts of Canada. Besides North America, dialects of ASL and ASL-based creoles are used in many countries around the world

-Glyph

is an elemental symbol within an agreed set of symbols, intended to represent a readable character for the purposes of writing and thereby expressing thoughtsideas and concepts
